Storyline

Joseon’s king is named Lee Heon. His wife passed away seven years ago, while he was still a crown prince. He still can’t seem to move over the tragedy of her passing. King Lee Heon has been alone for seven years, during which time members of the royal family and the government have sought unsuccessfully to arrange a marriage for him. While the monarch has yet to wed, the country has issued an ordinance known as geumhonryung, which prohibits any unmarried ladies from doing so. The public’s reaction to the prohibition on marriage has been one of outrage. After hearing about a lady named Ye So Rang, who claims to have seen the ghost of the king’s late wife at the palace, King Lee Heon decides to investigate.

Ye So Rang, meantime, is a con artist who pretends to read signals of marital harmony. At the police station where Lee Shin Won works, she is taken into custody and incarcerated. She lies to Lee Shin Won and claims to be possessed by a spirit so she may get out of trouble. She includes the claim that King Lee Heon’s late wife’s spirit lingers in the palace as part of her hoax. The king has her brought before him and asks whether she can see the ghost of his late wife. Ye So Rang fakes being possessed by the king’s late wife so that she may keep her own life. The falsehoods told by Ye So Rang are getting more and more outrageous.
