Storyline

Bedford and Sullivan, formed of boyhood friends Steve Bedford and Mike Sullivan, were once one of the biggest musical bands in the world, but they broke up ten years ago after an on-stage incident that strained their already tense working relationship. Since then, the two haven’t communicated, their already strained relationship having further disintegrated as a result of their following acts. Mike has retreated from the world in the wake of the events that led up to the on-stage incident, but he has agreed to a televised Christmas reunion show called “Bedford and Sullivan at Big Red,” Big Red being the Sullivan

family home in the small town of Pineville. While Steve has managed to carve out a modest solo career on the strength of goodwill toward the duo, Mike has not. Troy, the program’s producer, has sought talent manager Dianne Carter for help, especially in dealing with Mike, who is mainly absent-minded despite agreeing to perform the show. Carter represents neither Bedford nor Sullivan, but she does have an interest in the project. Dianne chooses Quinn Allen, of all the agents in her agency, to handle the case

because, unbeknownst to Quinn, she is Mike Sullivan’s estranged daughter. Since Quinn avoids her father at all costs, she bargains with Dianne to take the job with minimal resistance. After returning to Pineville, she finds out that Steve is now being represented by Jason Bedford, a childhood friend of hers, whom she blames for the deterioration of relations between their respective dads. As Quinn, Jason, Steve, and Mike

negotiate and renegotiate, it becomes clear that both Quinn’s father and Steve need the show to go on for different reasons. This is especially true regarding Bedford and Sullivan’s performance of “One December Night,” the show’s likely biggest hit but also a song with deep personal meaning for Mike. During this time, Quinn and Jason begin to develop romantic feelings for one another, but their future together may rest on the outcome of the program.
